Iran Says U.S. Attacks Will Not Go Unanswered

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned “aggressive acts” by the United States against an Iranian oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and a telecommunications tower on Qeshm Island, warning that the Islamic Republic will use “all available capacities” to defend its territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said the attacks were carried out in the early hours of the morning from the territory of two regional countries. It stressed that the assaults constituted a blatant violation of the April 8 ceasefire understanding as well as a clear breach of international law and Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force.

The statement also denounced the “colonial use” of the territory and facilities of regional states by the United States to advance hostile operations against Iran. The Foreign Ministry specifically pointed to the “direct and explicit responsibility” of the rulers of Kuwait and Bahrain regarding the overnight attacks.

According to the ministry, any country that allows its land, airspace, waters, or military facilities to be used in support of aggression against Iran is violating fundamental principles of international law and good neighborliness. It added that such actions fall under the definition of aggression as outlined in UN General Assembly Resolution 3314.

Iran reiterated that it reserves the inherent right to defend itself, including by targeting the source and origin of hostile attacks.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced that its Aerospace Force had launched missile and drone strikes against the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in response to the attacks on Iranian targets.
