The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced that its Aerospace Force had targeted a US aircraft carrier and a destroyer with several ballistic missiles during an ongoing maritime confrontation.

In a statement early Sunday, the IRGC said the two American warships had been involved in disrupting Iranian shipping and participating in a naval blockade.
It added that both vessels suffered damage and subsequently withdrew from the area, fearing further attacks.
The statement said the United States had been forced to officially acknowledge that two of its naval vessels had come under attack. The IRGC described US Central Command’s reported confirmation of the operation as evidence of a strategic defeat for Washington and proof of Iran’s offensive capabilities.
The IRGC said Iran’s Armed Forces remained firmly determined to defend the country and warned that continued hostile or aggressive actions by the United States would trigger severe responses.
The IRGC also praised public support for Iran’s Armed Forces, saying national solidarity would prevent the adversary from achieving its objectives. It concluded by declaring that Iran remained stronger than before and would continue resisting external pressure again.
