Iran’s Ambassador to the UN Office in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, has praised witnesses and survivors who testified during the 62nd session of the UN Human Rights Council about attacks by the United States and the Israeli regime on Iranian territory, stressing that documenting civilian suffering and pursuing justice must remain an ongoing international effort despite the slow pace of legal proceedings.

Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland, Ali Bahreini, has expressed appreciation to witnesses and survivors who shared video testimonies during the 62nd session of the UN Human Rights Council, describing the humanitarian impact of attacks by the United States and the Israeli regime on its territory.
Bahreini made the remarks during a virtual meeting attended by Rahimeh Shahabi, a volleyball coach and witness to the attack on a sports hall in Lamerd City; Leila Ghavidel, the mother of student Benjamin Jangjou; and Fatemeh Zahra Sheikhabadi, a survivor of the attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab, southern Iran.
The envoy thanked the participants for helping convey the experiences of victims to the international community and stressed that documenting civilian suffering and seeking justice for victims should remain an ongoing effort in international forums.
He said it was important to ensure that, in Iran’s view, the suffering of civilians and alleged attacks against non-combatants are not forgotten over time. While acknowledging that legal proceedings in international institutions can be slow, Bahreini said the determination of survivors and witnesses to pursue accountability remains essential.
Referring to the incident at the school in Minab, the Iranian envoy described it as a symbol of the suffering of Iranian schoolchildren. He also recalled an emergency session of the UN Human Rights Council that Iran said it had requested in Geneva to address the incident, adding that international attention to the case should continue.
Bahreini also referred to the Lamerd incident, describing it as an attack on a civilian site and the use of prohibited weapons, which he characterized as a war crime. He called for continued legal and international efforts to examine the case.
The ambassador also praised the Iranian Red Crescent Society, saying its emergency response demonstrated the organization’s operational capacity and enabled Iran to manage relief efforts without requiring foreign assistance.
During the meeting, Red Crescent official Mojtaba Khaledi described rescue operations, saying emergency personnel entered damaged buildings despite the risk of unexploded or delayed explosives while assisting victims and documenting the humanitarian consequences of the attacks.
Family members and witnesses attending the meeting also called for international attention to the victims and accountability efforts.
