During the meeting, the top Iranian diplomat expressed his gratitude to the Iraqi government and people for their worthy hosting of the summit, emphasizing the importance of increasingly utilizing the OIC’s capacities to pursue the issues of the Islamic world, particularly the Palestinian issue and the expansionism and warmongering of the Zionist regime.
Pointing to the excellent relations between the two neighboring and Muslim countries, Araghchi underscored the Islamic Republic of Iran’s determination to further strengthen ties with Iraq in all areas of mutual interest.
The latest regional developments were also discussed during the meeting. Outlining Iran’s positions and perspectives on peace and stability in the West Asia region, the Iranian foreign minister noted: “The root cause of insecurity in the West Asia region is the occupation and expansionism of the Zionist regime, which, especially over the past three years, coinciding with the genocide in Palestine, has embarked on military aggression against Lebanon, Syria, and Iran, jeopardizing global peace and security.”
Referring to Iran’s dedication to utilizing diplomacy to prevent the escalation of insecurities, Araghchi recalled that it was the US that repeatedly disrupted diplomatic processes through breaches of agreements and the use of force, leading to the insecurity of international commercial shipping.
In the meeting between the Iranian foreign minister and the Iraqi prime minister, the two sides also held talks and exchanged views regarding the Saudi-Yemeni conflicts and ways to help end the maritime blockade of Yemen and reduce tensions.
