Iran’s Leader Appoints New Top Military and IRGC Commanders

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei has issued separate decrees appointing six senior commanders and officials to key positions within the Armed Forces General Staff, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and the Basij Organization.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, issued separate decrees on Monday announcing new appointments and assignments for six high-ranking commanders and officials across the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and the Basij Organization.

Under the new appointments, Brigadier General Ali Abdollahi has been named Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, while Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari has been appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.

In another decree, Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi was promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed Chief Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.

Major General Mostafa Izadi was also appointed as Deputy Commander of the IRGC.

Meanwhile, Rear Admiral Ali Ozamaei was assigned command of the IRGC Navy.

The decrees also appointed Hojjat al-Islam Hossein Taeb as head of the Basij Organization.
