Speaking to India’s India Today, Esmaeil Baqaei stated that decisions on India’s relations with other nations are solely New Delhi’s responsibility.
According to Baqaei, Iran’s relations with other countries have never been against India, and this is one of the basic principles of international law that no bilateral relationship should be against a third country.
He also said Iran possesses significant surprise capability in the military sphere.
He discussed Iran’s response to Trump’s threats, detailing the history of Iran’s diplomatic engagement with the US, highlighting the US withdrawal from the Iran’s nuclear agreement of 2015, assassinating IRGC Quds Force Commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, and explaining Iran’s recent counterproposal to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which the US rejected.
He said, “Blockade itself is a declaration of an act of war,” adding that the US and Israel are to blame for the current international maritime and energy crises, including those affecting India.
The Iranian Spokesperson also asked why the disarmament of Israel’s nuclear weapons is not part of global demands, noting Iran’s compliance with the NPT as opposed to Israel, which is not a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Addressing the possibility of a ground invasion by the US, Baqaei affirmed the Islamic Republic’s military readiness, warning, “We have no other choice other than fighting back ferociously,” concluding that Iran is defending its homeland and international law against aggression.
