US response to Iran’s 7-day proposal being reviewed: Deputy FM

Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, says Iran is reviewing the US response to its proposed 7-day plan to end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Gharibabadi made the remarks as he spoke to reporters on the sidelines of a memorial service in Tehran, regarding the latest status of Iran-US negotiations and the outcome of Tehran’s recent proposal to Washington through mediators.

Noting that the US has conveyed its opinion via intermediaries on the proposal outlined by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in New York about Iran’s seven-day plan, he said the US views are currently being reviewed through the appropriate channels.

Iran will communicate its final position once the internal review is complete while taking necessary steps for other potential scenarios, the deputy foreign minister added.

On the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Iran explicitly set out its conditions to the United States for resuming the diplomatic process in an indirect message delivered through the Qatari mediator.

The conditions were essentially the same as those raised in the Islamabad MoU, which was signed by the two sides but ended without any breakthrough because of the US non-compliance and its renewed aggression against Iran.

The conditions included a halt to US acts of aggression — including the maritime blockade and economic terrorism — an end to the war on all fronts, the release of frozen assets, and acceptance of safe shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, as agreed upon between the two littoral states of Iran and Oman.
