Iran’s Ambassador to the UN Amir Saeid Iravani says the United States’ naval blockade constitutes a breach of the ceasefire, and must be lifted before talks can resume.

Speaking to reporters at the UN headquarters on Tuesday, Iravani said the U.S. naval blockade is a violation of the ceasefire, adding that the lifting of the blockade is a condition for the resumption of negotiations.

He speculated that as soon as the U.S. ends the naval blockade, the next round of talks can be held in Islamabad.

Iravani stressed that the U.S. initiated the war against Iran, adding that if Washington seeks to return to the negotiating table and find a political solution, “we will be ready.”

At the same time, he warned that if they want to enter a war, then Iran is also ready for that.

Asked about prospects for renewed talks, he said an opportunity must be given, adding, “We are hopeful.”
