In a telephone conversation with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, Pezeshkian discussed regional and international developments in the aftermath of the “military aggression of the US and the Zionist regime against Iran,” according to a statement released by the Iranian presidency.

“The firm determination and will of Iran is the continuation of legitimate and powerful defense against any aggression,” he said.

The Iranian president also expressed appreciation for Iraq’s government, people, and religious authorities for their support and condolence messages following the martyrdom of former Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei along with other officials and citizens.

Emphasizing Iran’s right to self-defense, Pezeshkian said Tehran considers it legitimate to target “centers and US bases that are the source of aggression against Iran’s territory.”

He also warned of plots by Washington and Israel aimed at sowing division among Muslim countries by supporting terrorist groups and using neighboring territories to launch attacks on Iran.

Pezeshkian reiterated the stance of the martyred Leader in opposing nuclear weapons, expressing hope that regional Muslim countries could move toward peace and stability without foreign interference or war.

He also condemned US and Israeli strikes on Iraqi military and security positions, stressing Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation with Iraq and welcoming a potential visit by his Iraqi counterpart to Tehran.

For his part, Rashid conveyed condolences from Iraq’s government, parliament, and people over the martyrdom of senior Iranian figures and citizens.

He strongly condemned the “aggressive attacks of the US and the Zionist regime against Iran” and affirmed Iraq’s solidarity with what he described as the Iranian people’s national resistance.

Rashid further characterized the conflict as an act against all Muslim nations in the region, reiterating Baghdad’s opposition to the war and its refusal to allow Iraqi territory to be used by third parties for attacks against Iran.
