Iran’s embassy in Britain issued a pointed response to recent U.S. threats over the Strait of Hormuz, using a prior statement by a British official to highlight warnings about disruptions to maritime navigation.

In a message posted late Sunday on X, the embassy wrote, “Very precise stance on this obvious threat to freedom of navigation, even anticipated it two days in advance.”
The remark came as a sarcastic reference to earlier comments by UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, who had blamed Iran for instability in the strategic waterway without mentioning the root causes, which are U.S. and Israeli military actions in the region.
In her previously published statement, Cooper said, “In my Mansion House speech, I made clear: the Strait of Hormuz must be fully reopened, without restrictions or tolls. The blocking of this vital waterway is hitting trade around the world and prices here at home. Freedom of navigation means navigation must be free.”
US President Donald Trump, however, has been threatening Iran over the strategic waterway, and has stepped up his rhetoric again after talks between Tehran and Washington, held in Pakistan over the weekend, failed to produce an agreement to permanently end the war and fully open the strait.
