Iran warns of pursuing policy of reciprocity in response to any attack on its power infrastructure

Iran’s Defense Council, in a statement issued following threats by the U.S. president against Iran’s power infrastructure, emphasized a policy of “reciprocity” in response to any attack on infrastructure and warned that the only way for non-hostile countries to pass through the Strait of Hormuz is through coordination with Iran.

The statement reads:

“Whoever transgresses against you, transgress against him in the same manner as he transgressed against you.

As demonstrated in the reciprocal response to the attack on the Natanz Nuclear Facility, when the Dimona Nuclear Complex was targeted, and earlier in proving Iran’s commitment to the Qur’anic principle of ‘reciprocity’ in response to attacks on energy infrastructure in Asaluyeh, the Defense Council reaffirms its commitment to delivering a decisive and destructive response to any aggression against power plants and energy infrastructure and insists on its immediate implementation without delay.

It also recalls that any attempt by the enemy to attack Iranian coasts or islands will, naturally and in accordance with established military practice, lead to the mining of all access routes and communication lines in the Persian Gulf and coastal areas with various types of naval mines, including floating mines deployable from shore. In such a scenario, the entire Persian Gulf would effectively assume conditions similar to the Strait of Hormuz for extended periods, and this time, alongside the Strait of Hormuz, the entire Persian Gulf would in practice be closed, with responsibility resting on the party issuing threats.

The memory of the failure of more than 100 minesweepers to clear a limited number of naval mines in the 1980s has not been forgotten.

The only way for non-hostile countries to transit the Strait of Hormuz is through coordination with Iran, and the Iranian nation, its armed forces, and officials will stand firm in implementing the orders of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and Commander-in-Chief to the very end.”
