Larijani said in his interview with Al Jazeera that Tehran has not received any specific proposal from the US so far, and what took place in Muscat, Oman, was merely an exchange of messages.
Stating that negotiations with Washington continue, he added: “Regional countries are striving for the success of these talks, and the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran toward the path of negotiation is positive.”
Larijani noted that the United States has reached the conclusion that it must adopt an approach toward Iran that differs from the military option, describing Washington’s entry into the negotiation process as a sign of moving toward a “rational path.”
The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council clarified that no negotiations are underway regarding any subject other than the nuclear program, emphasizing: “Regarding the absence of nuclear weapons, there is common ground between us and the United States.”
Larijani also accused the Zionist regime of trying to disrupt the negotiations process, stating: “Israel is looking for an excuse to ignite war and is not only targeting Iran, but also the stability of the entire region.”
At the same time, he rejected any discussion about “zero enrichment,” stating that Iran requires enrichment for the energy sector and the production of medicine.
He warned: “If the United States attacks us, we will target its military bases in the region.”
In another part of his remarks, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council evaluated Qatar’s role in the mediation process as positive and added: “The Islamic Republic of Iran did not receive nuclear technology from anyone; rather, it achieved it by relying on domestic capabilities.”
