In response to reports surrounding the arrest of an Iranian citizen in Medina during the ongoing Hajj pilgrimage, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that Iran-Saudi relations remain a top diplomatic priority.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Araghchi said, “The issue of relations with Saudi Arabia is currently receiving serious attention due to recent developments.” He reassured the public that Tehran is closely coordinating with the Hajj Organization to prevent any disruption in the dispatch and welfare of Iranian pilgrims traveling to the Kingdom.
The Foreign Minister underscored that Iran is “very serious” about maintaining and strengthening its diplomatic engagement with Riyadh. “Saudi Arabia holds a very important position in Iran’s foreign policy,” he stated, adding that Iran is determined to preserve the “brotherly relations” between the two nations and will not allow any incident to disrupt the broader trajectory of bilateral ties.
The remarks come amid heightened regional attention on the revival of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Riyadh following the 2023 China-brokered agreement, and as both nations seek to expand cooperation in regional stability, trade, and religious affairs.
