Speaking Friday at a special session of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Special Meeting titled “Safeguarding Energy & Supply Flows: Supporting Global Development through International Cooperation,” Amir Saeid Iravani warned of mounting instability in energy markets, supply chains, and global trade flows.

Iravani noted, “In this context, Iran has suffered in two profound and interconnected ways,” adding that in less than a year Iran had been subjected to two unlawful acts of aggression that were clear violations of the UN Charter and international law.

He said the attacks resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, especially women and children, and caused widespread destruction to civilian, economic, energy, and environmentally sensitive infrastructure.

Iravani underscored the consequences would persist beyond the end of military operations and questioned the real roots behind the growing crises and instability facing the region and global economy.

He continued, “The current instability did not emerge in a vacuum. It is rooted in military escalation and unlawful acts of aggression imposed by the Israeli regime and the US.”

He explained that direct attacks against Iran’s oil, gas, and petrochemical infrastructure have disrupted global energy and fertilizer supply chains, while the US maritime blockade and sanctions have further fragmented global supply chains and increased instability in energy and commodity markets.

“Iran remains committed to constructive engagement and efforts to restore stability, energy security, and the Strait of Hormuz to normal conditions, provided that aggression and military escalation cease, and the maritime blockade is lifted,” he said.

Iravani concluded, “We declare very clearly that the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz and its global economic consequences are solely the responsibility of the initiators of the war against Iran and their regional partners.”
