Baghaei describes Israel’s intense attacks on Lebanon as heinous crime

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei strongly condemned Israel’s intense attacks on Lebanon, describing them as a heinous crime.

Israel conducted at least 100 airstrikes within minutes across Lebanon on Wednesday just hours after a ceasefire came into force between Iran, the United States, and the Israeli regime.

The ceasefire included Lebanon as officially stated by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif whose country mediated truce negotiations based on an Iranian 10-point plan.

“As the Prime Minister of Pakistan has also stated, the cessation of hostilities on the Lebanese front is one of the components of the Iran–U.S. ceasefire, and today’s crimes by the Israeli regime against Lebanon constitute a blatant violation of the truce,” Baghaei said on Wednesday evening.

He warned against dangerous consequences of the Israeli actions in Lebanon, emphasizing direct responsibility of the U.S. government in that regard.

On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the U.S.-Iran ceasefire does not include Lebanon and said his regime will continue fighting in Lebanon. The same day, the Israeli regime struck several dense commercial and residential areas in the capital, Beirut, and other areas across Lebanon, killing at least 254 people and more than 1,100 others, according to Al Jazeera.
