Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to explicitly condemn a recent US-Israeli attack near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, warning that continued inaction could embolden further aggression.

In a letter to IAEA Secretary-General Rafael Grossi, Mohammad Eslami described the strikes as a “clear violation of international law” and “a war crime.”
The area around Unit 1 of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant was targeted in an air and missile attack at around on Saturday. The blast wave and shrapnel damaged a building inside the site, killing a security staff member and injuring several others.
Eslami warned that the attack, the fourth targeting of the facility, could risk the release of radioactive materials from an operational reactor, with “irreparable consequences” for people, the environment, and even neighboring countries.
He criticized the agency’s inaction, saying that merely expressing “deep concern” without clear condemnation is insufficient and risks encouraging further attacks.
“It is clear that this inaction, especially the director general’s politically biased media interviews and statements, including those raised in the March 18, 2026 interview with the US CBS news network, has further emboldened the aggressors to continue these brutal attacks in violation of international principles and rules,” he warned.
“Undoubtedly, the continuation of such inaction will be regarded as a form of explicit complicity with the perpetrators, and this collusion will be recorded in history, further undermining the credibility of the Agency.”
Eslami urged the agency to take a firm stance and fulfill its statutory responsibilities, adding that Iran will take necessary measures to defend its sovereign rights.
