Iran sends letter to UN over U.S. threat to use Diego Garcia base

Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, describing recent remarks by the President of the United States on the possible use of the Diego Garcia base for military action against Iran as a blatant violation of the UN Charter, and calling for the Security Council’s immediate intervention.

Amir Saeid Iravani, in his letter, stated that—acting under instructions from the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and following previous correspondence dated 30 December 2025 and 2, 9, 13, 22, and 28 January 2026—the issue of continued U.S. threats against Iran has once again been brought to the attention of the Secretary-General and Security Council members.

Referring to the U.S. President’s recent public statements concerning the potential use of Diego Garcia base for a military strike against Iran, Iravani described these comments as another example of persistent threats of force, underscoring the need for urgent action by the Security Council in response to this process.
