Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry has condemned US attacks on civilian areas and infrastructure across several provinces as \u201cbrutal war crimes\u201d and reaffirmed the Islamic Republic\u2019s right to retaliate in self-defense.<\/p>\n
Tehran-IranView24<\/strong><\/p>\n The Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that Iran\u2019s Armed Forces responded to US military aggression under the country\u2019s \u201cinherent right of self-defense,\u201d after US attacks on civilian areas and service infrastructure across several Iranian provinces killed and wounded dozens of people, including more than 70 at a wedding celebration in Hormozgan province.<\/p>\n The ministry \u201ccondemned in the strongest terms\u201d the United States\u2019 \u201caggressive actions\u201d against Iran and reaffirmed the Islamic Republic\u2019s determination to \u201cfirmly defend Iran\u2019s independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n The Foreign Ministry said the regime in the United States had again violated Iran\u2019s \u201cnational sovereignty and territorial integrity\u201d by attacking civilian areas and service infrastructure, including telecommunications towers and sites, in Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan and Kerman provinces.<\/p>\n The enemy attacks killed and wounded several Iranians and caused damage to public and private property, the ministry said.<\/p>\n In one such attack, more than 70 people were killed or wounded at a wedding celebration in Kouhestak, in Hormozgan province\u2019s Sirik County, \u201cmost of them women and children,\u201d according to the ministry.<\/p>\n The Foreign Ministry described the attacks as \u201cbrutal war crimes,\u201d saying they constituted \u201cgrave violations of the fundamental principles of international law.\u201d<\/p>\n It added that the crimes \u201crecall the previous US-Israeli crimes over the past year and a half,\u201d including those in Minab and Lamerd.<\/p>\n In response, the ministry said Iran\u2019s Armed Forces, acting under their \u201cinherent right of self-defense,\u201d struck US military bases that had served as \u201cthe origin and support\u201d for the US aggression against Iran.<\/p>\n The Foreign Ministry reiterated its call on regional countries to prevent the United States from using their territory and facilities to prepare for and carry out \u201caggressive operations against Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n It said this was necessary to prevent \u201cthe continuation and expansion of the war\u201d and to stop a \u201csinister US-Israeli plot\u201d to impose \u201cpermanent insecurity\u201d on the region.<\/p>\n The ministry expressed its condolences over the deaths of Iranian citizens and reminded all states of their responsibility to \u201cpursue, prosecute and punish\u201d those responsible for, and those who ordered, grave violations of international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n The Foreign Ministry also reminded the United Nations, particularly the Security Council and the UN secretary-general, of their responsibilities under the UN Charter.<\/p>\n It warned that the \u201csilence and inaction\u201d of UN bodies over continued violations of the principles and rules of the UN Charter, particularly Article 2(4), by a permanent member of the Security Council would further discredit the United Nations and threaten international peace and security.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry has condemned US attacks on civilian areas and infrastructure across several provinces as \u201cbrutal war crimes\u201d and reaffirmed the Islamic Republic\u2019s right to retaliate in self-defense.
