Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has delivered a sharp challenge to the existing global order, declaring that US-Israeli military aggression against Iran violated the UN Charter and international law, while calling on SCO Plus countries to help build a multipolar world free from hegemonic dominance.<\/p>\n
IranView24 \u2013 Political<\/strong><\/p>\n Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for a new international order based on effective multilateralism, sovereign equality and international law, stressing that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus countries can play a major role in building a multipolar world.<\/p>\n Addressing the leaders\u2019 meeting of the SCO Plus framework, Pezeshkian said the world was undergoing profound changes, with economic, political and technological power being redistributed and an increasing number of countries seeking a greater role in international decision-making.<\/p>\n He stressed that the emergence of a multipolar world should not mean replacing one center of power with another.<\/p>\n \u201cThe goal should not be the transfer of hegemony from one power to another,\u201d Pezeshkian said, emphasizing that a multipolar world can lead to a just international order only when accompanied by effective multilateralism, sovereign equality among states and the rule of law.<\/p>\n Pezeshkian said the United Nations should not be regarded as an institution belonging to a particular historical era that should be abandoned as the global balance of power changes. Instead, he said, the UN must become an institution that better represents the realities of the new world and performs its core mission of maintaining international peace and security, preventing war and peacefully resolving disputes more effectively.<\/p>\n He said the United Nations and its Security Council must adopt a more just and effective approach to global developments.<\/p>\n The world, Pezeshkian said, is currently facing military aggression, genocide, war crimes, terrorism and illegal sanctions. The performance of the United Nations and the UN Security Council in responding to developments in Gaza, Lebanon and the recent aggression against Iran has been highly disappointing.<\/p>\n Pezeshkian said one of the most serious threats to the international order today is the weakening of the principles that form the foundations of the UN Charter.<\/p>\n The military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, including the martyrdom of Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader, the attack on a school in Minab that killed 168 students, the attack on Lamerd Stadium, attacks on medical and educational facilities, the targeting of civilians and vital national infrastructure\u2014including financial, banking and transportation infrastructure\u2014as well as attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency and on university and research centers, constituted clear violations of the UN Charter and the principles of international law.<\/p>\n Pezeshkian questioned what would happen to the international system if such actions were normalized without an effective response from the international community.<\/p>\n If such actions become normalized, he asked, which country could be confident that its sovereignty and security would be protected against the use of force?<\/p>\n He also questioned what incentive countries would have to trust international monitoring and verification mechanisms if peaceful nuclear facilities operating under IAEA safeguards could be targeted during military conflicts.<\/p>\n Pezeshkian further asked how the necessary confidence for peacefully resolving disputes could be maintained if military threats and the use of force were pursued simultaneously with negotiations and diplomacy.<\/p>\n \u201cThese questions are not about Iran but about the future of the international order,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Pezeshkian said the Islamic Republic of Iran was not the initiator of the war and had instead acted in self-defense.<\/p>\n At the same time, he stressed that Iran continues to consider diplomacy and negotiations the principal path toward resolving disputes.<\/p>\n But diplomacy without good faith, respect for commitments and an avoidance of the use of force cannot produce lasting peace, he said.<\/p>\n Pezeshkian said recent developments and repeated violations by the United States of commitments contained in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding demonstrated that even when parties reach a political framework to halt hostilities and begin negotiations, the absence of effective enforcement guarantees and a return to pressure and threats can derail diplomacy.<\/p>\n Pezeshkian said the international community was facing a historic choice.<\/p>\n One path, he said, would lead to a world in which competition among major powers produces greater fragmentation, conflict and instability.<\/p>\n The alternative is a multipolar world in which diverse centers of power are accompanied by multilateral cooperation, respect for the UN Charter and sovereign equality among states.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Islamic Republic of Iran chooses the second option,\u201d Pezeshkian said.<\/p>\n He stressed that the countries participating in the SCO Plus framework, with their political, economic, demographic and geographic capacities, can make a significant contribution to the realization of such a world.<\/p>\n Pezeshkian called for the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to be marked not only by commemorating its past, but also by a commitment to its future.<\/p>\n He thanked the participants for their attention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has delivered a sharp challenge to the existing global order, declaring that US-Israeli military aggression against Iran violated the UN Charter and international law, while calling on SCO Plus countries to help build a multipolar world free from hegemonic dominance.
