According to the poll, more than 92 percent of respondents believe Iran emerged as the winner of the confrontation, while a large majority reject Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu’s claims of strategic success and view the outcome of the conflict as detrimental to Israel’s long-term security.

IranView24

A comprehensive survey conducted by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in cooperation with the Agam Institute has revealed widespread dissatisfaction among Israelis regarding the outcome of the recent military confrontation with Iran and the diplomatic arrangements that followed.

The poll, conducted between June 17 and 20 among 3,644 Israelis aged 17 and above, found that 92.1 percent of respondents believe Iran ultimately emerged victorious from the conflict and the subsequent agreement reached between Tehran and Washington. Significantly, this perception was not limited to opposition voters. Even among supporters of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing political bloc, 93.1 percent said Iran had won.

The findings indicate a profound gap between official government narratives and public opinion. While Israeli and American leaders presented the campaign as an effort to eliminate Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities and potentially destabilize the Islamic Republic, the overwhelming majority of Israelis appear unconvinced that these objectives were achieved.

According to the survey, 87.8 percent of respondents believe Israel either failed to accomplish its stated goals or achieved only a portion of them. Furthermore, 82.9 percent said the six-week military campaign weakened Israel’s long-term security position, while 86 percent expressed a negative view of both the outcome of the war and the U.S.-Iran arrangement that followed.

The results also suggest a growing crisis of leadership for Netanyahu. Nearly three-quarters of respondents, 72.5 percent, said they do not believe the prime minister’s assertion that Israel secured major strategic gains or eliminated an existential threat. More than half, 56.4 percent, rated his management of the conflict as either “poor” or a complete “failure.”

Only 26.5 percent described Netanyahu’s handling of the war as “good” or “excellent,” while 17.1 percent offered a neutral assessment.

The political consequences appear equally significant. Support for Netanyahu remaining prime minister has fallen sharply, dropping from 40.5 percent in March to just 29.4 percent in June, according to the survey.

The poll also highlights growing frustration with U.S. President Donald Trump among Israeli voters. Despite the traditionally close alignment between Washington and Jerusalem, 69.1 percent of respondents rated Trump’s management of the conflict and its aftermath as “poor” or “failed.” Only 10.8 percent viewed his performance positively.

Analysts say the figures reflect widespread dissatisfaction in Israel over Washington’s decision to pursue an agreement with Tehran without direct Israeli involvement, reinforcing perceptions that Israeli strategic interests were sidelined during negotiations.

At the same time, the survey reveals that support for a hardline military approach remains present within Israeli society. Nearly half of respondents, 48.2 percent, supported renewing large-scale military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, including strikes on Beirut, even if such actions risked confrontation with the Trump administration. Just 20.9 percent opposed the idea, while nearly one-third remained undecided.

Perhaps the most politically damaging finding for Netanyahu concerns his long-standing promise of achieving “total victory” against regional adversaries. After more than two and a half years of war against Hamas and Hezbollah following the October 7, 2023 attacks, only 12.2 percent of respondents believe Israel has achieved most of the goals associated with that objective, including the defeat of Hamas, the return of hostages, and the elimination of the Hezbollah threat.

A clear majority, 61.3 percent, said those goals had not been achieved at all, while 26.5 percent believed only some objectives had been met.

Taken together, the survey paints a picture of a deeply divided and disillusioned Israeli public. Far from viewing the Iran war as a strategic success, most Israelis appear to regard the conflict as a costly confrontation that failed to deliver its promised outcomes, weakened national security, and exposed growing tensions between Israeli expectations and U.S. policy in the region.

Times of Israel

A new nationwide survey has exposed an unprecedented crisis of confidence among Israelis following the recent war with Iran and the subsequent U.S.-Iran agreement.
