Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs slammed the US double standards on human rights, saying Washington abandons legal principles whenever issues concerning Israel arise.<\/p>\n
Tehran – IranView24<\/strong><\/p>\n In a post on X on Saturday, Kazem Gharibabadi referred to reports about a US federal court order temporarily suspending sanctions imposed by Washington against Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories.<\/p>\n Albanese was sanctioned by the US in July 2025 after she publicly criticized Washington\u2019s policy on the Israeli regime\u2019s genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza.<\/p>\n Gharibabadi wrote, \u201cHuman rights in the US lexicon are respected only until they reach the Israeli regime.,\u201d noting,\u00a0 \u201cWhenever accountability for the regime and its supporters over the crimes in Gaza is raised, Washington resorts to sanctions, threats and intimidation instead of defending the law.\u201d<\/p>\n He said sanctioning a UN special rapporteur for seeking accountability through the International Criminal Court exposed \u201cthe true face of US human rights policy: human rights for enemies, immunity for allies.\u201d<\/p>\n He further added that the approach reflected \u201cthe same double standard that has for years held international justice hostage to Washington\u2019s political interests.\u201d<\/p>\n The senior Iranian diplomat argued that the US \u201ccannot simultaneously speak of a rules-based order while targeting every institution, expert or mechanism that approaches the crimes of the Israeli regime with pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIf international law is only valid as long as it does not touch US allies, then it is no longer law; it is a tool of domination,\u201d he said, adding that the independence of UN missions and the rights of Palestinian victims to \u201ctruth and justice\u201d must not be sacrificed to protect Israel from accountability.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs slammed the US double standards on human rights, saying Washington abandons legal principles whenever issues concerning Israel arise.
