\u00a0Iran\u2019s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali outlined a series of proposals for managing and controlling the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the capacity now available to Iran has been \u201cobtained at a high price\u201d and must be used with comprehensive foresight.<\/p>\n
Tehran – IranView24<\/strong><\/p>\n Speaking to Russia\u2019s RIA Novosti news agency on Monday, Jalali said members of Iran\u2019s Parliament and relevant institutions are drafting a new legal regime for the vital international passageway.<\/p>\n In the first step, he said, it is necessary to establish in the international arena that the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz falls exclusively within the jurisdiction and control of its coastal states.<\/p>\n Jalali said that the transit of all vessels, whether oil or non-oil, should be subject to bilateral agreements between Iran and the ship\u2019s country of ownership.<\/p>\n In return, arrangements could include tolls, credit lines to guarantee trade, and financial guarantees for purchasing Iranian goods and repaying funds through methods outside the existing sanctions system, he added.<\/p>\n According to the ambassador, how partner countries manage sanctions is their own issue and will no longer be related to the Islamic Republic.<\/p>\n The envoy also said ships must use the correct name \u201cPersian Gulf,\u201d warning that the use of fake titles would invalidate transit permits.<\/p>\n He added that military vessels belonging to hostile states would be barred from passage.<\/p>\n Jalali further emphasized that all littoral states should benefit equally from oil transit, asserting that either everyone will have the possibility of exporting and selling oil without obstacles, or no one.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u00a0Iran\u2019s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali outlined a series of proposals for managing and controlling the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the capacity now available to Iran has been \u201cobtained at a high price\u201d and must be used with comprehensive foresight.
