Iran\u2019s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadeq<\/strong>, has arrived in Baghdad<\/strong> to hold high-level talks with Iraqi officials on enhancing transport cooperation and facilitating Arbaeen pilgrimage logistics.<\/p>\n

Sadeq landed in the Iraqi capital on Saturday night<\/strong>, where she was welcomed by Hazem Razi Al-Hafazi<\/strong>, Iraq\u2019s Deputy Minister of Transport, and Kazem Al-e-Sadeq<\/strong>, Iran\u2019s Ambassador to Baghdad.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival, the Iranian minister visited the site of the U.S. drone strike that killed General Qasem Soleimani<\/strong> and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis<\/strong> in January 2020, paying tribute to the two commanders widely revered in both countries.<\/p>\n

High-Level Bilateral Talks<\/strong><\/h3>\n

During her visit, Minister Sadeq is scheduled to meet with Iraq\u2019s Prime Minister<\/strong>, as well as the Ministers of Transport and Interior<\/strong>, to discuss several key topics:<\/p>\n

    Advancing bilateral transport ties<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Finalizing construction plans for the Shalamcheh\u2013Basra railway<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Coordinating efforts to provide maximum facilities for Arbaeen pilgrims<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Sadeq\u2019s trip builds upon a previous high-level visit in September 2024<\/strong>, when she accompanied President Masoud Pezeshkian<\/strong> to Iraq. That visit resulted in the signing of 14 cooperation documents<\/strong> across various sectors, including transportation infrastructure.<\/p>\n

    The Shalamcheh-Basra railway project<\/strong>, a long-anticipated strategic initiative, is viewed as critical for boosting cross-border trade and easing the transit of pilgrims, particularly during the Arbaeen season.<\/p>\n

    Focus on Arbaeen Pilgrimage<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    A key focus of the ongoing talks is preparation for the Arbaeen pilgrimage<\/strong>, one of the largest annual religious gatherings in the world. Every year, millions of Shia Muslims from around the globe, including large contingents from Iran<\/strong>, travel to the holy city of Karbala<\/strong> to commemorate the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hossein (PBUH)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
