Concurrent with the conclusion of the Omani Foreign Minister’s visit to Tehran, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries issued a joint press statement today, Tuesday, 3 Shahrivar 1404 (August 25, 2026). The text of the statement is as follows:
His Excellency Mr. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al-Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, during a working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, held constructive consultations with his Iranian counterpart, His Excellency Dr. Seyyed Abbas Araghchi.
The consultations focused on the importance both countries attach to the resumption of safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while preserving their sovereignty and sovereign rights.
In light of the current situation in the strait, resulting from the recent war and its catastrophic consequences, the two ministers discussed a phased framework that could provide a practical and actionable basis for moving forward.
The proposed framework includes the establishment of a joint temporary maritime corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as an agreement to implement a joint project for the clearance of mines from the strait. Technical negotiations between the two sides will continue with the aim of reaching an agreement on a permanent maritime corridor and the future administration of the strait, as well as a mechanism for information exchange, traffic management, and the provision of related maritime and security services.
In this regard, both sides emphasized the importance of holding joint dialogues with the countries of the region bordering the waters of the Persian Gulf. They also underscored the necessity of upholding applicable international law and respecting the sovereign rights of the littoral states.
