Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, currently on an official visit to Cairo, met on Monday morning with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the presidential palace, where the two sides exchanged views on issues of mutual concern.
The meeting marked a key diplomatic engagement between the two regional powers amid ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral ties.
Later in the day, Minister Araqchi also held talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, discussing a range of political and regional developments.
Araqchi arrived in the Egyptian capital on Sunday evening, with his visit focusing on bilateral relations and the latest developments in West Asia, particularly the ongoing Israeli military assault on Gaza, which is described as an act of genocide.
During his visit, Araqchi is also scheduled to meet with a number of Egyptian political and economic figures, as well as members of the Iranian community residing in Egypt. This trip marks his third visit to Cairo since assuming office in 2024. Notably, he also accompanied President Masoud Pezeshkian during the D-8 summit held in Egypt in December 2024.
Diplomatic sources say both Tehran and Cairo are actively working to open a new chapter in their bilateral relations, following nearly two years of high-level dialogue and behind-the-scenes diplomacy.
President Pezeshkian’s visit to Egypt last year—the first by an Iranian president since 2013—focused heavily on economic cooperation among Islamic nations, with an emphasis on enhancing ties with Egypt.
Commenting on Araqchi’s current visit, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqaei said that over the past 18 months, Iran and Egypt have held a series of constructive consultations, with both governments showing a clear political will to deepen cooperation.
