Dushanbe – Iran View 24 | May 29, 2025
Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref arrived in the Tajik capital Dushanbe on Thursday to participate in the International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, held from May 29 to June 1, 2025.
Before he departed from Tehran, Aref emphasised the significance of Tajikistan as a friendly and co-lingual nation, highlighting that expanding ties with Dushanbe remain a top priority in Iran’s foreign policy.
“Tajikistan holds a special place in our regional diplomacy, and we consider this visit an opportunity to further deepen mutual ties,” Aref told reporters.
Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
During his visit, Aref is scheduled to explore new areas of collaboration, particularly in the sectors of economy, trade, science and technology, and tourism. He also underscored the importance of following up on previously signed agreements and resolving any outstanding issues to ensure effective implementation.
“We hope this visit will yield valuable outcomes,” Aref said. “Reviewing the current state of agreements and identifying practical solutions to challenges are key parts of our mission here.”
Iran’s Role in Glacial Preservation
The First Vice President will deliver a speech at the international conference, representing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s viewpoints on global efforts to preserve glaciers and combat climate change.
The conference, organized by the Government of Tajikistan with the support of the United Nations, follows a UN resolution designating 2025 as the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation and March 21 as World Day for Glaciers. This global initiative aims to raise awareness about the critical state of glaciers due to climate change and to foster international cooperation for sustainable solutions.
Iran’s participation in the conference signals its commitment to environmental diplomacy, particularly in regions like Central Asia that are vulnerable to the impacts of global warming.
