A terrorist attack targeting the judiciary building in Zahedan was foiled by Iranian security forces on Saturday, leaving six dead and 22 injured. Officials say the assailants were linked to an Israeli-affiliated group.
Zahedan, Iran View24 – Law enforcement authorities in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province announced they have thwarted a terrorist attack by a group reportedly linked to Israel, which targeted the provincial judiciary building in the city of Zahedan. At least six people were killed in the incident, and all the assailants were neutralized.
Alireza Daliri, the province’s deputy police commander, told that members of the terrorist cell, disguised as civilians, attempted to infiltrate the Zahedan Judiciary Department early Saturday morning. Security forces, upon identifying the threat, engaged in a gunfight and successfully neutralized all three attackers, he said.
Daliri noted that two of the assailants were killed while attempting to flee the scene on a nearby street, and the third was shot dead before he could detonate a grenade. The explosion led to multiple civilian casualties, including a mother and her one-year-old child, he added, without elaborating further.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in Zahedan confirmed the death toll at six. In a separate statement, it reported that 22 people were injured, most of whom were ordinary citizens.
Earlier in the day, Iran’s Judiciary also confirmed the attack and the subsequent exchange of fire in a statement, noting that several people were injured and emergency personnel had been dispatched to the scene.
Some of the injured were evacuated by rescue teams from the judiciary complex and transported to local medical facilities, the statement said.
Security and law enforcement personnel evacuated clients and staff from the area and have since established a secure perimeter around the courthouse.
