According to an IRNA correspondent, Abbas Araghchi arrived at Muscat Airport early this morning, February 6, and was welcomed by Omani officials. Araghchi is accompanied on this trip by Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy for Political Affairs; Esmaeil Baghaei, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson; Hamid Ghanbari, Deputy for Economic Affairs; and several other Iranian diplomats.
As announced by the Iranian Foreign Minister, the new round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States will take place this morning in Muscat.
According to the US officials, Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law and assistant, will represent the United States in the talks with Iran. L
Witkoff arrived in Muscat a few hours before the Iranian delegation.
This round of nuclear talks is taking place amidst the US military buildup in the region and threats and claims made against Iran, which threaten regional security.
The Islamic Republic of Iran sits at the negotiating table with the US while bearing in mind the bitter experience of five previous rounds of negotiations with Washington, which were ultimately halted by the military attack of the Israeli regime and the United States on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Therefore, the issue of trust remains Iran’s most significant challenge in this round of talks.
These negotiations faced much speculation over the past week and even reached the brink of cancellation.
