Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned of a US and Israeli scheme to expand the scope of war, stressing that inaction by the international community would have far-reaching consequences.
In a phone call with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis on Saturday, Araghchi outlined “the crimes committed by the United States and the Zionist regime during 30 days of military aggression against Iran,” and reminded all countries of their responsibility to condemn “illegal attacks and gross violations of humanitarian law.”
He emphasized that “indifference to lawbreaking and terrorist actions by the United States and the Zionist regime has led to the erosion of the international normative and moral system, and its consequences will affect all countries.”
Araghchi further stated that insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz is “a direct result of the military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran.”
Iran has taken measures, based on established principles of international law, to prevent hostile vessels from exploiting the waterway while ensuring safe passage for others in coordination with Iranian authorities, he added.
He also stressed that US and Israeli attacks constitute “a clear violation of Article 4 of the UN Charter and a manifest case of aggression,” urging all states to condemn the acts and refrain from any cooperation with the aggressors.
Gerapetritis, for his part, expressed concern over the war’s security and economic consequences and voiced hope for an immediate return to stability.
The United States and Israel launched a war of aggression against Iran on February 28, assassinating Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and top military commanders and targeting civilian infrastructure across the country. At the time, Tehran and Washington were negotiating on the nuclear issue.
