Asaad Al-Shaibani, the Foreign Minister of the Syrian Interim Government, emphasizing that confronting the terrorist group ISIS is a shared responsibility between Syria and Iraq, thanked Baghdad for accepting and holding the group’s detainees. He attributed the transfer of ISIS prisoners from Syria to Iraq to analyses provided by the United States.

In this context, the Iraqi Ministry of Justice announced that 5,703 ISIS members from 61 countries have been transferred to Iraq. Of these, 4,253 are Arab and 983 are non-Arab. Among them, 467 are Iraqi nationals and 3,543 are Syrian. The highest figures belong to nationals of Tunisia, Morocco, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Russia, and Egypt.
Baghdad announced that this transfer has been carried out at the request of the International Coalition and under the supervision of Iraqi security institutions. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has also reported the start of the process for transferring ISIS prisoners from northeastern Syria to Iraq, and moving at least 150 individuals.
