Iran is fully serious about negotiations that have recently begun and is seeking genuine, result-oriented talks, provided the other side shows the same level of commitment, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Monday.

Speaking to ambassadors and heads of foreign missions based in Tehran ahead of the anniversary of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, Araghchi said a deep wall of distrust remained due to US behavior in past years, including over the past year.
“Unfortunately, there is a very large wall of distrust, stemming from the conduct of the United States in previous years and even in the past year,” he said. “We were engaged in negotiations in the previous round when those events occurred, and an attack was carried out against us.”
Araghchi was referring to an Israeli-imposed 12-day war against Iran last June, saying that calls for Iran’s “unconditional surrender” at the outset were later replaced by demands for an “unconditional ceasefire”. He said the events highlighted the resilience of the Iranian people.
“What became clear in all these developments was the resistance of the Iranian people,” he said, adding that this resistance had redirected attention back to diplomacy.
“There is no solution to Iran’s nuclear issue except through diplomacy,” Araghchi said.
