The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Austria has described the European Union’s designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as an act of “political hypocrisy and irresponsible provocation.”

In a statement, the embassy said the move was designed to strip the defensive institutions of a sovereign state of their legitimacy and to insult the dignity of the Iranian nation, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran views it as a direct threat to its national security.
The statement went on to say that the decision exposes the European Union’s subservience to a “genocidal and occupying regime,” as well as to its war-minded supporters in the United States, and fundamentally calls into question the EU’s credibility as an independent global actor.
The Iranian Embassy in Austria stressed that the move is a reckless decision rooted in the dangerous doctrine that “might makes right,” warning that the consequences of such an approach will ultimately be borne by those who devised and backed it.
