The government of Tajikistan has expressed serious concern over the escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, calling for the peaceful resolution of all conflicts only through diplomacy.

In a statement issued by Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, the country expressed its opposition to any military actions.

“The Republic of Tajikistan expresses its serious concerns regarding the escalation of situation in the Middle East, particularly in relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and, opposing any military actions, supports the peaceful resolution of all conflicts exclusively through diplomatic means,” said the statement released on the ministry’s website.

“The Republic of Tajikistan calls upon parties to comply with the principles of the UN Charter, the norms of international law, and to make every effort to preserve peace and stability in the region,” it further said.

The United States has built up its military presence near Iran, bringing in its aircraft carrier strike group to the region, as President Donald Trump has stepped up threats of military action against Iran.

Trump intensified his rhetoric as unrest broke out in Iran during protests over the rising cost of living.

The unrest, instigated by foreign-backed terrorists, broke out on January 8, nearly two weeks after the protests had begun and while the Iranian government was holding meetings with protesters’ representatives to hear their demands.

Iranian authorities say the terrorist groups involved in the unrest were backed by the US and Israel, as the two sought to compensate for their defeat during the 12-day war Israel waged on June 13 last year and the US joined later.
