Araghchi: Iran’s Foreign Policy Built on Rejection of Domination

Tehran – Iran View24 – 31 May |

On the eve of the anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s passing, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, along with senior officials and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic to renew their allegiance to his ideals.

Speaking at the ceremony, Araghchi stated:

“Imam Khomeini was not only the architect of the Islamic Revolution but also of our foreign policy. The cornerstone of this policy is the principle of rejecting foreign domination, a concept deeply rooted in Imam’s historic opposition to capitulation laws imposed by foreign powers.”

From Capitulation to Enrichment: A Continuum of Sovereignty

Referring to the principle of “Neither East nor West,” Araghchi clarified that it symbolizes rejection of reliance and subordination, not rejection of international engagement.

He linked this principle directly to Iran’s nuclear policy:

“Western opposition to Iran’s uranium enrichment is not about security—it’s an attempt to impose dominance. This is unacceptable to the Iranian people. Enrichment is not just a technical need; it is a symbol of national sovereignty and resistance to external pressure.”

Araghchi reiterated Iran’s long-standing position against nuclear weapons, stating:

“We share the goal of nuclear disarmament with the West, but unlike them, we respect our obligations. They continue to violate their NPT commitments while lecturing others.”

Firm on Principles, Guided by Leadership

The foreign minister concluded by emphasizing Iran’s unwavering stance:

“Our position on the nuclear issue is clear and based on the principles set by Imam Khomeini and the guidance of the Supreme Leader. We proudly consider ourselves soldiers of both.”
