The head of Branch 102 of the Criminal Court 2 in Shiraz, southern Iran, was assassinated on Tuesday morning in a targeted attack, a senior provincial official confirmed.
According to Sadrollah Rajaee-Nasab, a judicial official in Fars Province, Judge Ehsan Bagheri was fatally shot by two assailants while on his way to work. Authorities have opened a full investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Judge Bagheri was 38 years old and had more than 12 years of experience in Iran’s judiciary system. His sudden and violent death has drawn swift reaction from the country’s top judicial officials.
In response to the attack, Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei issued a statement calling on security and law enforcement agencies to urgently investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
The motive behind the assassination remains unclear as the investigation continues. Local officials have yet to confirm whether the killing was related to any specific legal case or personal threat.
